The Swiss Society of Hypertension AstraZeneca Scholarship and Grant-in-Aid

In 2002, the Swiss Society of Hypertension adopted a strategic plan to sponsor Hypertension Research starting in the year 2003 that included specific priorities for research:

The SSH Hypertension Research Program provides research support for Swiss graduates/scientists wishing to perfect their education in a center of high standard abroad or for research investigations throughout Switzerland.

The funding mechanisms offered are designed to:
  • Support highly promising beginning scientists in their progress toward independence, by encouraging and adequately funding research projects that can serve to bridge the gap between completion of the research training and readiness for competition as an independent investigator.
This program should provide financial support for a 1-year research fellowship in a foreign country.
  • Sponsor special research projects not funded by the industry or other for-profit groups.
Awards are available for individuals working in basic sciences, health sciences, clinical studies or some combination of these. The SSH Hypertension Research Program currently accepts applications for these programs. The annual award amount is 40'000 CHF per year, which can be attributed either for one Scholarship or up to 10'000 CHF per project for Grant-in Aid.

The application deadline is June 30 annually.

To assure a rapid evaluation of the application a Grant Committee of the Swiss Society of Hypertension will evaluate the submitted proposal for completeness (and if necessary request additional information from the applicant) and select the appropriate reviewers based on the field and scientific content of the proposal.
